Crime and Punishment - Portland Edition on Flickr.

This is a mural that is on the side of a Building at Hawthorne & 33rd. It was painted in by artist Jane Brewster in 1997.  The mural depicts different literary characters from classics.  The
characters in the photo are from Crime and Punishment.  See a Flickr photo set from the artist Here.
I used the random double exposure effect of the salvador84 lens in hipstamatic to capture the shot. The second exposure is inverted vertically at the same scale as the original. You have to sort of know what you are looking for to see the second exposure and recognize it.
I like the way the shapes of the second exposure makes the people in the mural look like they have Tattoos on their faces. Portland is a bit tattoo crazy and this makes me imagine Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment story happening in Southeast Portland.
